Can I move items from one Basecamp project to another?
Yes, you can move messages, to-do lists, milestones, and files from one Basecamp project to another if you’re an admin. You can find the link to Move… by editing a message, milestone, file, or to-do list.
The Move… link invokes a pop-over with a pull-down to select a destination project and some notes about what happens when you move that particular item.
Certain limitations apply:
Move a message:
- Any comments and attached files (attached to both the message and in comments) will move with it
- The message will no longer be associated with any milestones once moved
Move a to-do list:
- Any to-do items, any comments and attached files (attached to both to-do items and in comments) will move with it
- The to-do list will no longer be associated with any milestones
- Responsible parties will no longer be assigned unless they are already part of the destination project
- Associated time entries move with the list
Move a milestone:
- Any comments and attached files (attached to both the message and in comments) will move with the milestone
- Any associated to-do list or messages WILL be moved with it
- Responsible parties will no longer be assigned unless they are already part of the destination project
Move a file:
- All versions of the file will move
- The file will no longer be associated with a message
People:
People will not be moved with content. You should set up people on the destination project before moving things. People who are already on the destination project will be automatically linked up with the content just as they were before, including notifications and assignments.
So if you move a message and the author isn’t part of the destination project, they’ll still appear as the author but will not be able to receive email notifications of new replies or be able to post new replies.
(Please note that, at this time, there really isn’t a way to move events from one project to another.)
